Microsoft Isn’t Backing Up Your Data. Are You?

Businesses that use Microsoft 365 (Office 365) assume their data and communications using Word, Excel, Teams, Exchange, SharePoint, etc., is magically backed up by Microsoft. But even Microsoft will tell you – it’s in your user agreement – that they are not liable for any data loss.

Microsoft Services Agreement, Section 6B

We strive to keep the Services up and running; however, all online services suffer occasional disruptions and outages, and Microsoft is not liable for any disruption or loss you may suffer as a result. In the event of an outage, you may not be able to retrieve Your Content or Data that you’ve stored. We recommend that you regularly backup Your Content and Data that you store on the Services or store using Third-Party Apps and Services.

So what are you doing to secure your data?

Are you making sure your company is vigilant about doing regular backups? Most small businesses do not have the time or resources to ensure their data is protected against outages, human error, or other disruption. The cost of data loss can be extreme, but the cost of ensuring reliable backups is surprisingly affordable.

mPowered IT is a Microsoft partner and a local Atlanta small business advocate. We help companies using Microsoft 365 with setup, training, and support, along with reliable and verifiable backups. Microsoft has a remarkable suite of services to boost communications and productivity, but it can be burdensome for a small business to get employees up to speed on changes, get support when something isn’t working, or ensure everything is always backed up as it should be.

Businesses often don’t realize how critical their data is until it’s missing. Recognizing its importance only after a day’s work, vital emails, presentations, accounting records, etc. have been lost is a costly lesson small businesses cannot afford.
